Toilet paper contains dangerous chemicals
The toilet paper we use contains chemicals, which are dangerous for us, according to a study. Now this is a matter of concern. According to a report published in Environmental Science and Technology Letters, all paper, including toilet paper from major brands sold around the world, has become another source of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS is one such chemical that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is concerned with. These chemicals have been linked to body diseases, cancer risk, reduced fertility, increased high blood pressure in pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, cholesterol risk, and reduced effectiveness of vaccinations. According to a study by Timothy Tynsend of the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida in Janesville, wastewater samples were collected from 43 different brands of PFAS-containing toilet paper from North America, Africa, South and Central America, and Western Europe. A study found that a species of PFAS was present in collected toilet paper and sewage water. 91 percent of the collected toilet paper and 54 percent of the sewage were found to contain PFAS. The EPA has called it hazardous.
