 Russian Federation news agency TASS said the body of 47-year-old Botikov, a senior researcher at the Gamalya National Research Center for Ecology and Mathematics, was found in his apartment.
 Russian President Vladimir Putin honored the virologist with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland award for his work on the Covid vaccine. According to reports, Botykov was one of the 18 scientists who developed the 'Sputnik V' vaccine in 2021.

 The investigating authorities said in a statement that the scientist's death is being investigated as a homicide.

 According to investigators, the 29-year-old man ran off with Botikov's belt during the argument. Law enforcement agencies in their report said the killing was a domestic crime and is believed to be the result of a struggle. The suspect was arrested after Botnikov's body was found, according to the Federal Investigation Agency.

 Within a short time, the whereabouts of the youth concerned were known. The accused youth has a previous criminal record, having already faced court for a serious offence. The investigative team plans to file a petition in the NY court.
